Introduction to Earth Science- Summary

Today you will summarize either Section 1 or Section 2 of our first Earth Science chapter. You will be working within Microsoft Word and using images and text to complete your summary.

For each section I would like you to include:

• ·         The title of your section at the top using Word Art (under the “insert” tab)

• ·         The main vocabulary presented in your chapter, heading in Word Art, explanation in regular, legible font

• ·         An image as an example of each idea

• ·         Your name (first name, last initial) at the bottom of your project

Your project should be no more than two pages and have some artistic effort put into it.

Here is what you should include:

Section 1: What is Earth Science?

·         Overview of Earth Science:

o   Geology

o   Meteorology

o   Astronomy

·         Formation of the Earth:

o   The Nebular Hypothesis

·         Layers form on Earth

Section 2: A View of the Earth

·         Earth’s Major Spheres:

o   Hydrosphere

o   Atmosphere

o   Geosphere

o   Biosphere

·         Plate Tectonics Theory

For those of you who have finished typing and submitted your essays, nice work! Today you get to peruse the newspaper. Go ahead and spend about 20 minutes looking at the different headings and articles in each. Then I would like you to:

• Select an article you would like to summarize
• Write me a one paragraph summary (in a Word Doc) of the article including
• The title, author, and when the article was written
• Include the 5 W's and and H: Who, What, Where, When, Why (if applicable) and How
• A photo from the article if there is one

Game Time!!

Today you will experiment with a game called Refraction. The object of the game is to save some poor little animals that have gotten themselves stuck in space…using fractions!

Class challenge: When you get to the last level (7-9), if you have accrued all of the coins along the way…you guessed it, I’ll buy you a bag of chips!
